Philosophy of Midwifery Care & Services
Childbirth is a normal, healthy, powerful process which is a pivotal life event for a woman and her family. Most women do not require medical intervention to give birth. Science has proven that for healthy women, birth outcomes are better when interventions are kept to a minimum and the body's natural processes are supported.
Gently Borne Midwifery Services utilizes a uniquely personalized approach to child birth based on the concepts of personal responsibility and informed choice. Understanding that there are many ways to meet any given health condition or life event, my goal is to provide information and support choices so that you and your family can make personal decisions according to your individual preferences and needs.
I strongly believe that God's design for women to give birth is not flawed. My trust in birth led me to experience my own unassisted birth after having had midwife assisted home births. As a homebirth midwife and childbirth educator of 25 years (and educational director of Michigan School of Traditional Midwifery), I've diligently sought to educate women about the natural process of birth. I know first hand what a powerful tool self confidence is. Educating women, who are experiencing a normal healthy pregnancy, to trust their bodies ability to birth efficiently is the most effective way to empower a woman to birth bravely, confidently and thus safely.
Women and their families should have the right realize their birthing goals; the right to choose where, with whom and how they give birth. For some women, this means the familiar, private surroundings of her home with midwifery support. Gently Borne & Blessed Beginnings Midwifery Services is committed to making home birth a viable option for northern Michigan families.

Birth is not only about making babies. Birth is about making mothers ~ strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.
